About this Event

We are pleased to invite you to our first event of 2026 titled "Vaccines & Vaccine Development." This event will take place on February 10, 2026, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

This session will delve into a current hot topic, as vaccines have been heavily covered recently in the news. With both industry and academic representatives on the panel, multiple viewpoints will be shared. This will be followed by a networking reception from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Panelists Include:

  • Matt Koci is Professor — Immunology, Virology and Host-Pathogen Interactions and Co-director, Animal Health and Nutrition Consortium in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Dr. Koci’s research focuses on understanding how bacteria and viruses cause disease; and how the host responds to those threats. Much of his current work is centered around gut health and deciphering how the intestinal microbiome communicates with the mucosal immune system. Dr. Koci earned his Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech and his Master of Science and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
  • Ravi Kulkarni is Associate Professor in Population Health and Pathobiology at NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. His laboratory focuses on studying ‘host-microbe interaction’ with a focus in the areas of immunology, microbiology, probiotics and vaccines. Dr. Kulkarni obtained his Veterinary degree (BVSc, eqv DVM) from Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, India, and Masters in Immunology and Parasitology from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. He completed his PhD in immunology and microbiology at the University of Guelph Veterinary College, Canada.
  • TBD, an industry representative who will provide insight into the business of vaccine development and commercialization.
