👏 Join BTC on Thursday January 22, 2026 in Durham, NC for an evening of community, conversation, and bold ideas about the future of work and economy in North Carolina.
At a time when too many people are underemployed and do not have enough resources to reach their full potential, we must go beyond diagnosing economic conditions and work towards creating a state where everyone can thrive. This year’s Economy for All event will focus on the role of work and workers in building a more equitable economy in North Carolina — and on what it takes to create and sustain “good jobs” across our state.
We are honored that Darrick Hamilton, considered one of the nation’s foremost scholars, economists and public intellectuals, will join us to share a vision for the economy that centers well-being over profits. Together, we will imagine how North Carolina can create economic rules that keep costs affordable for all and creates a foundation for a just economic future.
– Suggested donation: $25 per person. We warmly welcome people of all class backgrounds, and we do not turn people away due to cost. We offer a sliding scale that allows people to register according to what is comfortable for them and also have limited free tickets available.
Proceeds will support BTC’s efforts to build an economy that works for everyone as we engage directly with communities who have been historically left out of the policymaking process and whose voices should be the ones driving our economy forward.

Darrick Hamilton is a university professor, the Henry Cohen Professor of Economics and Urban Policy, and the founding director of the Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy at The New School. He is a leading voice on innovative policies such as a federal jobs guarantee, an approach that guarantees employment at a living wage for all who want to work.
