Scholar Peter Thomas will present "World of Pocumtuck and Other Native Villages in the Middle Connecticut River Valley.” Native peoples lived in the middle Connecticut River valley 400 centuries before English settlers arrived, and during the first forty years of colonial contact. The complex, and largely ignored Indian world, with its political, economic and social inter-connections, is a significant element of the historical and cultural context within which English settlement occurred.
Thomas will present a fresh view of this world and discuss three main topics:
• The time depth of Native American occupations in the Connecticut Valley;
• The nature of Indian daily and seasonal lifeways, and
• The significance of inter-tribal relationships before and during the early years of European colonization.

This event is free and open to the public.
