About this Event
The Experience
Calling all South Bay Agave Girls! After years of unforgettable gatherings, we are thrilled to return to Copita Willow Glen for a very special evening led by the woman who started it all: Joanne Weir. Whether you are a seasoned tequila aficionado or simply looking for a vibrant night out with like-minded women, Agave Girls offers a celebratory environment to explore the flavor, history, and craft of Mexico’s finest spirit. We are thrilled to be partnering with Mijenta Tequila. Mijenta is a woman-owned and woman-led tequila brand, crafted in the highlands of Jalisco under the expertise of Maestra Tequilera Ana María Romero Mena. What better way to celebrate Women's History Month than with an exceptional tequila created by women, for everyone who appreciates quality and craftsmanship?
Using only fully mature Blue Weber agave grown in the iron-rich red clay soil of Arandas, the high-elevation microclimate and mineral-rich terroir create distinctive fruit and floral aromas with hints of minerality. Every step prioritizes quality: hand-selected agave, carefully chosen yeast strains, extended fermentation, and double distillation — all bottled unfiltered to let the unique character shine through. Mijenta is also the only tequila producer to earn B Corp certification and is fully carbon neutral, demonstrating that exceptional quality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
Ana María Romero Mena is one of the most influential figures in the global tequila industry and a true trailblazer as one of the first women to become both a Maestra Tequilera and an Official Catadora de Tequila (official tequila taster). When she began her career in this male-dominated industry 30 years ago, she had to be extremely dedicated to her craft and fight to prove herself every day. Her contributions have been transformative, from pioneering work in tequila aromas to leadership in sustainable production practices, redefining what it means to be a maestra tequilera in the modern age.
