About this Event
Genius? Madman? Saint? Antoni Gaudí, the internationally renowned visionary architect most famous for Barcelona's Cathedral of the Poor, Sagrada Familia is recreated in a vibrant new multimedia drama, written by Stephen Callaghan, which explodes with colour and creativity, and encourages us to make the most of every moment.
As the 100th Anniversary of the death of fiery, enigmatic and eccentric architect, Antoni Gaudí, approaches, following last year’s Fringe hit Oggie! Oggie! Oggie!, AGAP Theatre returns with a bold new production that tells his story. Through performance and visual projection. God’s Architect, who overcame health complications and opposition, to realise a plan that he believed was divinely inspired, is brought to life by writer, director and performer Stephen Callaghan, with Jacqueline Glencorse and Russell Wheeler. A cast of three performing nineteen characters! With visually arresting technical effects by Zach O'Neill.
Glasgow-based playwright and theatre-maker Stephen Callaghan has written extensively on faith-related subjects in new and challenging ways, often infused with the humour and style of his native city, His plays have been performed widely in local venues and schools around Scotland, including a commission from the Vatican for an International Conference held in Glasgow in 2022 and the acclaimed The Margaret Sinclair Story commissioned by the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. His solo show Oggie! Oggie! Oggie! premiered at Lentfest 2023, and following its Fringe success was performed extensively across Scotland during a subsequent tour of secondary schools.
Together with his wife, Rachel, he directs the work of Callaghan Theatre Productions and is also the Creative Director of the Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project (AGAP). Technical Director Zach O’Neill who created the visual projections has been with the company since 2019 providing lighting and sound design for all productions as well as fulfilling operator roles in both disciplines. The other cast members have both performed with AGAP before, accomplished musician Russell Wheeler deploying his technical and creative talents in various ways with the company as well as performing as one half of the folk duo, Heelster Gowdie.
