After5NewYork-The Neuroscience of Memory: Why We Remember, Forget & Distort
About this Event
A Conversation on Memory, Perception, and the Stories We Tell Ourselves
Join a neuroscientist and science communicator for The Neuroscience of Memory: Why We Remember, Forget & Distort, an engaging exploration of one of the brain’s most fascinating and misunderstood abilities. From cherished childhood moments and everyday lapses to vivid memories that never happened quite the way we recall, we’ll uncover how memory is formed, stored, retrieved, and reshaped over time.
Together, we’ll explore the science behind remembering and forgetting, examining how attention, emotion, sleep, and experience influence what stays with us and what fades away. We’ll also dive into the surprising ways our brains reconstruct memories, why eyewitness accounts can be unreliable, and how memory shapes our identity, relationships, and decision-making.
This is not a traditional neuroscience lecture. It’s a dynamic, interactive conversation designed for curious minds who want to better understand themselves and the remarkable workings of the human brain. Whether you're fascinated by psychology, interested in personal growth, or simply wondering why you can remember a decades-old embarrassment but forget where you left your keys, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the nature of memory.
