After5NewYork - Inside the Creative Brain: The Harmony of Music and Math
About this Event
A Conversation on Music, Mathematics, and Creative Thinking
Join neuroscientist, mathematician, and public health researcher and for Inside the Creative Brain: The Harmony of Music and Math, an engaging exploration of the surprising connections between two disciplines often seen as opposites. Together, we'll uncover how patterns, rhythm, structure, and logic shape both musical expression and mathematical discovery.
We'll explore how mathematical principles influence melody and harmony, why music can help us understand complex concepts, and what these fields reveal about creativity, innovation, and the way the human brain works. From famous composers to modern neuroscience, we'll examine where art and analysis intersect and why that intersection matters more than ever.
This isn't a classroom lecture. It's a lively, interactive conversation designed to spark curiosity and thoughtful discussion, best enjoyed with a drink in hand. No musical training or advanced math knowledge required; curiosity is all you need.
Come discover the hidden patterns behind creativity, share ideas, and connect with fellow curious thinkers through your After5 Society.
About The Speaker:
Renata Prôa is a neuroscientist, mathematician, and public health researcher whose work sits at the intersection of math, music, and the human brain. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Theoretical Neuroscience at the Zuckerman Institute at Columbia University while also earning her Master of Public Health from Harvard University. Renata serves as a Data Scientist and Scientist at Hospital Albert Einstein, where she applies artificial intelligence and data science to advance healthcare research. A former classical musician turned mathematician and researcher, her unique journey has fueled a lifelong fascination with how patterns, rhythm, and cognition shape human creativity. Drawing on expertise that spans neuroscience, music, mathematics, and global health, Renata brings a rare interdisciplinary perspective to understanding the creative brain and the remarkable connections between analytical thinking and artistic expression.
