SO how did such a Colony Thrive well enough to etch the Story of the Pilgrims and the thanksgiving into American culture?
In the immediate aftermath of Mayflower, 3 ships brought people to the fledgling Colony.
Fortune in 1621, Little James and Anne in 1623 with additional settlers many of them family members from the Leyden Congregation.
There were 120+ new people added to the colony, every person is a unique story. From John Jenney and family, miller and brewer, to Barbara unknown the future wife of Captain Standish and creator of that family dynasty, to John Oldham, nonconformist to laws, free-lancer and merchant.
One story is that Oldham refused to go on guard duty. When confronted by Standish on his dereliction, Oldham pulled a knife on the Captain. Oldham was subsequently punished by going through a gauntlet of his fellow musketeers.
So come on down to the Hedge House 126 Water St Plymouth October 12 and 13, and about some of these immigrants as represented by New Plimmoth Gard members.
