About this Event
Take an in-depth dive into the historical and present-day use of herbs with cultural significance in African American, Native American, and Western Herbalism. We will explore the medicinal and magical (rootwork) uses for Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) in this session.
Each class will be accompanied by a monograph of information about the herb, a sample of the dried herb, and a walk in the garden to see the plant in its natural habitat.
Suggested prior reading: African American Herbalism by Lucretia VanDyke and Working the Roots by Michelle Lee
About the Instructor:
Hi, I’m Meaghan, Smile shop employee, clinical herbalist and garden educator. I learned to garden from my father and stepfather and learned plant medicine from my grandmothers. I completed an Afro Indigenous clinical herbalism program in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico back in 2021. I love sharing what I have learned along the way and look forward to seeing you in class!
