About this Event
Step into the rhythm of Caribbean heritage with a 90-minute Bèlè & Soca Dance Workshop led by performer and instructor Chrislyn Lashington.
This workshop is hosted in collaboration with the Consulate General of Grenada in Toronto.
Rooted in the traditions of Grenada and neighbouring Caribbean nations, Bèlè is more than a dance—it’s a celebration of resilience, joy, and community.
Soca is the spirit of the islands, with its infectious rhythms beckoning you to wine, wave, jump and have a great time. Learn about Jab Jab and its significance to Grenada.
In this traditional dance workshop, you'll:
✅ Learn the history of Bèlè, Jab Jab, Soca
✅ Break down the traditional steps and posture
✅ Move in traditional Bèlè skirts (may be shared based on numbers)
✅ Workout to easy-to-follow Soca steps
Whether you're a dancer, culture lover, or curious spirit, this is your invitation to connect with something deep, grounded, and joyful.
👗 What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothing or workout wear that fully covers your stomach
- Sneakers or dance shoes (barefoot for Bèlè is an option)
- A full heart and open mind
All are welcome. No experience needed.
