Experience a powerful evening of orchestral music that celebrates the global influence of African traditions. The program opens with "African Suite" by Fela Sowande, a groundbreaking work that weaves traditional Yoruba melodies and rhythms into a Western classical framework. Sowande’s music highlights the depth and sophistication of African art music in the orchestral canon.
The second half features "African Suite" by Abdullah Ibrahim and arranged by Daniel Schnyder, a dynamic contemporary composition that blends jazz-influenced harmonies with rhythms inspired by African musical traditions. This work will feature the NSS Music Director and jazz pianist, Dr. David Fanning, on piano.
Together, these works showcase the richness and diversity of African-inspired orchestral music, reflecting a shared musical heritage while advancing a commitment to inclusive and globally inspired programming.
