Advocacy for Migrant Women Facing Inequality and Abuse

Final Training of the CEE Us! Leadership Programme 2026
Migrant women can face multiple and overlapping inequalities — including gender discrimination, language barriers, financial dependence, insecure or complex immigration circumstances, isolation and unequal access to services and support.
For people leading and supporting migrant communities, these issues can come up in very real ways. Community leaders are often among the first people someone trusts enough to approach for help — including when they are experiencing discrimination, controlling behaviour, financial abuse or domestic abuse.
But how do you advocate effectively without stepping beyond your role? How do you respond safely to a disclosure? And how can migrant leaders challenge the wider inequalities that leave some women with fewer choices, less power and greater barriers to getting help?
This practical and interactive training will explore advocacy for migrant women through the lens of inequality, gender and domestic abuse. Participants will develop their confidence in recognising structural inequalities, understanding some of the specific barriers migrant women may experience, responding appropriately to disclosures and connecting people with specialist support.
Importantly, the session will go beyond supporting individuals. We will also consider how migrant and community leaders can use advocacy, collective voice and influence to challenge the systems and inequalities affecting women in their communities.
Part of the CEE Us! Leadership Programme 2026
This is the final training in our CEE Us! Leadership Programme 2026 — a programme designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge, confidence and influence of migrant and emerging community leaders.
Throughout 2026, our leadership programme has explored areas including political engagement, voting rights and policy influence, community research and data, ethical leadership, public speaking and storytelling, leadership and wellbeing, migrants' rights, economic justice, and advocacy.
The programme is part of the wider CEE Us! Migrant Network, bringing together people from migrant communities to connect, learn, develop their leadership, share experiences and strengthen migrant voices in the decisions and systems affecting our lives.
CEE Us! is not only for established leaders. We welcome people who are already active in their communities as well as those who are beginning their leadership journey and want to become more involved.

Who Is This For?
This training is for migrant and emerging leaders from all migrant communities.
You might be a community leader, volunteer, organiser, project worker, coordinator, community researcher, advocate or someone involved with a migrant-led or community organisation. You may simply be someone who is active in your community and wants to develop the knowledge and confidence to support and advocate for others.
You do not need to be an established leader or have professional experience in domestic abuse services.
The training is designed to build awareness and advocacy skills and help community leaders respond appropriately and signpost people to specialist support — it is not specialist domestic abuse practitioner training.
Facilitator: Jana Grygarova
The session will be facilitated by Jana Grygarova, a Mental Health IDVA, with years of frontline experience supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Jana also provides specialist consultation and training on domestic abuse and mental health. She brings a trauma-informed, survivor-centred approach, with an understanding of the additional barriers immigration can create when accessing support.
Lunch, refreshments and beverages will be provided.
