Featured Player Scott Smith shares the wealth of knowledge and talent that make him one of Vancouver's all time greatest ringers, first with a lecture, and then later on as band leader, with one of the biggest and baddest editions of his much beloved Adventures in Pedal Steel yet!
Perpetual builder, Ross Shafer of Sierra Steels, also joins us to give a lecture on the subjects of: "How do these contraptions work?" "Care and Feeding of your Pedal Steel" and "Pedal Steel Ergonimics."

Scott Smith’s Adventures in Pedal Steel is a popular monthly show at the Vancouver venue The Painted Ship at which Smith has shown how the pedal steel guitar can be used in all kinds of genres, from country to soul, indie-folk to gospel and all points in between. With his crack band at his side, Smith has presented an entirely different song list each month with dozens of incredible guest singers.
The packed shows have become not only a must-see event for local music fans but the “Steel Nights” at the Painted Ship have become a community hub for Vancouver’s busiest musicians where they can catch up with old friends between tours and sing a few Gram Parsons' songs with the band.
For the Adventures in Pedal Steel show at The Wise Hall on Feb 7, the group will be playing some classic pedal steel instrumentals, with a whole bunch of out of town guests, some vocal tunes with a whole bunch of talented friends, and some selections from Smith’s ambient pedal steel album “Lifeboat: Explorations in Pedal Steel”.
