Michael recently returned from a 3 ½ week trip to Japan, following a part of the ancient journey traveled by Japanese poet, Matsuo Bashō, considered the master of Haiku. Bashō lived from 1644 to 1694, renouncing the social and urban lifestyle of literary people, instead preferring to wander through the Northern wilderness of Japan in search of inspiration for his writing. Today, Michael traveled along much of the same routes that Bashō was said to have traveled, meeting new people, experiencing a new-to-him culture, writing haiku and tanka, and taking photographs. Freshly returned to the United States, Michael will share his journey with us through his poetry, his photographs, and his stories.
