A talk by John Thomas, University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS)In the 20 years since the last major review of later prehistoric settlement in Leicestershire & Rutland a huge amount of new information has been gathered as a result of commercial excavations, community archaeology projects and metal-detecting discoveries. Taken together, all of this work provides a much clearer picture of Iron Age life in the area, which appears to have been rich, widespread and diverse. In this lecture John Thomas, Deputy Director at ULAS, will aim to give an overview of the current evidence, highlighting the diversity of settlement and richness of material culture that is helping to prove that the archaeology of Leicestershire and Rutland can make important research contributions on a national and international scale.
FREE. All welcome, no booking necessary, doors open from 7.00pm. The lecture will be at the Rattray Lecture Theatre, University of Leicester, University Road, Leicester (LE1 7RH). Parking at the Danielle Brown Sports Centre on campus, accessed through Entrance 1 on University Road (closest to Welford Road).
