Catalyst has been given special access to the beautiful Town Creek Primitive campground on Lake Guntersville Alabama for a weekend of flatwater kayaking thanks to North Alabama State Parks. Besides kayaking there will be bird watching, fishing, outdoor games, music, presentations about the land and the history, a community dinner Saturday night, mystery awards, storytelling and more. The main focus of this weekend is to relax, have fun, have new experiences and leave happy.
There is a road leading to the campsite with a road up a slight grade leading to the showers. There are exposed roots in some of the areas and the rest is grass with a gentle slope to the water’s edge. We will seat some of the participants on shore if possible. Others we can lift into their kayak. We will be respectful of everyone’s safety, comfort and needs.
Trey Reaves will be our guide for this weekend. Trey holds the record for kayaking the entire 652 miles of the Tennessee River the fastest at 6 ½ days. He’s a great person and we’re very privileged to have him.
We have three amazing sponsor’s who are excited to co-host this event with Catalyst. They are Yellow Hammer, Alabama State Parks and RC&D (Alabama’s Mountains, Rivers and Valleys Resource, Conservation and Development).
There are restrooms/showers at the site. Note that the shower stalls have no handicap benches but we will provide two ADA approved extended shower benches. There will also be 2 ADA port-a-potties provided.
Electricity will be supplied by multiple generators for everyone’s use to charge phones, lights or medical devices.
