About this Event
An interdisciplinary perspective on technological advances in care for the rehabilitation patient, including vagal nerve stimulation paired therapy, functional electric stimulation, robotic exoskeleton, weight supported gait training, and artificial intelligence/ambient listening technology implications for nursing care.
Continuing Education Credits (CMEs):
Physical Therapists: Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Physical Therapy as an approved provider of physical therapy and physical therapist assistant continuing education. Participants will receive a certificate at the completion of the conference for 5 contact hours.
Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants: New York: St. Charles is a Continuing Education Sponsor for OT and/or COTA by THE STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT University State of New York Office of the Professions State Board for Occupational Therapy. Social Workers: Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0146. This course is approved for 5 contact hours.
Cancellation policy: cancellation received at least 7 days before the event are refundable, minus processing fee. If you are registered and do not attend event you are still liable for full payment. A refund will be issued to any participant who is registered to attend a seminar that is cancelled by Good Samaritan Hospital St. Charles Campus. Registrants will receive a certificate once payment is received and course is successfully completed.
Symposium Faculty:
Bailey A. Zampella, DO
Dr. Zampella is a board certified neurosurgeon with fellowship training in Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery. She completed her medical school at VCOM at Virginia Tech. She went onto complete a rigorous 7 year neurosurgery residency in Southern California, with exposure to a variety of neurosurgical trauma and pathology. She then went to complete a 1 year fellowship in Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle WA. During her fellowship, she specialized in the surgical treatment of patients with movement disorder (including Parkinson’s disease and Essential Tremor) as well as patients with epilepsy and pain disorders. She now practices at Catholic Health in Long Island to take care of a variety of neurosurgical pathology, including placement of vagal nerve stimulators for ischemic stroke patients.
Dan LaMarca, MSN, RN
Dan LaMarca MSN, RN is the Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation at Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus. Dan has a long history with the St. Charles Campus dating back to November of 1991 when he was born there! He received his Associate’s degree in Nursing through Suffolk County Community College, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing through Stony Brook University and his Master’s degree in Nursing Executive through Chamberlain University. After a short 1-year stint at another organization after graduating nursing school, Dan has been with Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus since 2020. He began as a staff nurse on 3E med/surg before taking over as the Assistant Nurse Manager on the unit. After four years in that role, he transitioned into his current role as Director of 4E and 3W.
Michelle Galante-Adams, MAPT
Michelle Galante-Adams, MAPT graduated from Touro College in 1992 and has worked at Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus for 34 years. She has been a CCCE and Lead Physical Therapist since 1998 with a specialty in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation. Michelle coordinates the Indego Exoskeleton program since its inception in 2016, promoting its benefits as well as treating patients utilizing Indego. Michelle has presented at the Empower SCI technology fair multiple times demonstrating the Indego exoskeleton to camp participants. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and in the outdoors.
Lindsay Aponte, PT, DPT
Lindsay Aponte, PT, DPT graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2017 and has worked at Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus for 9 years. She specializes in treating patients with neurological deficits including CVA, TBI, and SCI. Lindsay is certified to use the Andago overground body weight support gait training device as well as the MyoCycle functional electrical stimulation bike. In her spare time Lindsay enjoys spending time with her family and friends and cheering on her New York Yankees.
Jenna Minton, MS, OTR/L, CHT
Jenna is a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist specializing in upper extremity rehabilitation. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Science from Ithaca College in 2019, followed by her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2020. Driven by her passion for upper extremity rehabilitation, Jenna earned her Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential in the fall of 2024. She has also developed expertise in advanced stroke rehabilitation interventions, including treating individuals who have received Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) implants. Her specialized education and advanced training in upper extremity anatomy, biomechanics, tissue healing, and functional movement allows her to provide a specialized approach to neurological rehabilitation, focusing on optimizing recovery and functional outcomes. Jenna continues to pursue opportunities to advance her clinical expertise and contribute to the ongoing development of innovative rehabilitation approaches.
Jennifer Zeman, OTR/L, RYT
Jennifer Zeman is a licensed and registered occupational therapist with over a decade of experience helping individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life. She earned her Bachelor of Health Science from Quinnipiac University in 2011 and her Master of Occupational Therapy in 2012.Since then, Jennifer has practiced across a variety of healthcare settings, including skilled nursing, pediatrics, outpatient rehabilitation, and acute inpatient care. The majority of her clinical career was spent at St. Charles Hospital and Stony Brook University Hospital, where she developed extensive expertise in neurological rehabilitation and interdisciplinary patient care. In addition to her occupational therapy credentials, Jennifer has been a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) since 2016, integrating principles of mindfulness, movement, and wellness into her approach to rehabilitation and holistic health. Today, Jennifer serves as a Therapy Development Specialist with Mobia Medical, supporting the adoption of Vivistim®, an innovative therapy designed to enhance upper extremity recovery after stroke. She is passionate about advancing the continuum of stroke care and collaborating with clinicians to help more stroke survivors achieve meaningful functional outcomes. Jennifer is dedicated to bridging clinical expertise with innovative technology to improve lives and expand access to evidence-based rehabilitation.
Michele Diodato, MS CCC-SLP, TSSLD
Michele Diodato is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with nine years of experience in both acute and outpatient care settings. She has worked extensively across the lifespan, treating a wide range of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. She is Manual Therapy trained, PROMPT trained, and VitalStim certified, with advanced competencies in conducting instrumental swallow assessments including Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS). With a strong foundation in evidence-based practice, she is especially passionate about infant feeding and employs a hands-on, individualized approach to therapy. She currently practices in the outpatient department at Good Samaritan University Hospital, St. Charles Campus.
