Your dog knows the skills. Now it's time to develop the confidence, communication, and reliability to use those skills in the real world.
Legend Acres Advanced Urban Group Class takes established training beyond the familiar training environment and into everyday community settings.
Dogs and handlers work through busy walkways, public entrances, automatic doors, elevators, stairs, crosswalks, food distractions, changing surfaces, public settling, crowds, and unexpected environmental activity.
This is advanced real-world dog training for qualified pet dogs and teams preparing for therapy or service-dog work.
PUBLIC ACCESS TEST PREPARATION IS INCLUDED.
For teams pursuing service-dog training, Urban includes preparation for the separate Legend Acres Public Access Test. Following Urban, teams progress into disability-related task training before completing that separate evaluation.
The AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) Test is also included in Week 6.
The AKC Urban CGC Test evaluates a dog's manners and behavior in urban environments. It does not certify a dog as a service dog and does not grant ADA public-access rights. It is separate from the Legend Acres Public Access Test.
For teams pursuing therapy-animal work, Urban develops the real-world community skills needed before advancing into Legend Acres Pet Therapy Prep and therapy-specific handler education.
For pet dogs, this course develops advanced public manners and stronger real-world reliability. Your dog does not need to pursue therapy or service work to participate.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
Loose-leash walking in busy public environments. Controlled entrances and exits. Elevators and stairs. Crosswalks and street crossings. Food and environmental distractions. Public settling and down-stays. Changing surfaces and unexpected movement. Handler communication. Environmental awareness and recovery. Advanced public manners and Public Access Test preparation.
