6-Week Advanced Pattern Cutting Workshop: Trouser & Chino Development
This intensive 6-week workshop is designed for students who want to strengthen their technical pattern-cutting skills and develop a strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and industry practice. Through guided studio sessions, participants will learn how to draft, adapt, and refine trouser patterns, progressing from a basic trouser block to a fully developed chino trouser.
The course focuses on professional methods used in fashion education and industry settings, helping students build confidence in both technical drafting and practical garment construction.

What You Will Learn
Module 1 — Basic Trouser Block Development
Students will learn how to construct a foundational trouser block from body measurements, with a strong focus on fit, balance, and proportion. Through toile development and refinement, students will establish a solid technical base for further design development.
Key areas include:
- Trouser block drafting from measurements
- Fit, balance, and silhouette understanding
- Waist, hip, and seat shaping
- Movement and ease in trouser construction
- Toile making and pattern refinement
Module 2 — Chino Trouser Development
Building on the basic trouser block, students will adapt their pattern into a classic chino trouser. This module focuses on casual tailoring, functional detailing, and professional garment finishing.
Key areas include:
- Adapting a trouser block into a chino fit
- Casual tailoring principles and design development
- Pocket construction and detailing (slanted pockets, patch pockets, waistband, belt loops, fly)
- Fit refinement through toile adjustments
- Industry-standard construction and finishing techniques
Workshop Format
- Duration: 6 weeks
- Delivery: Studio-based, hands-on learning
- Level: Intermediate / Advanced beginners with basic sewing or pattern knowledge
- Outcome: A completed trouser block and finished chino garment suitable for portfolio development
Portfolio Development
Students will begin developing technical work suitable for progression into further education, creative practice, or fashion industry pathways.
