Advanced 6 Week Wheel Throwing Class
Students entering this class should already feel comfortable centering clay, throwing basic cylinders, bowls, and plates, pulling handles, carving simple feet, and making basic lids. Building on those foundational skills, this class will push your abilities further while introducing new techniques and project ideas.
Throughout the course, students will work on:
• Throwing larger and taller forms
• Refining and enhancing foot design
• Improving lid construction and fit
• Developing more advanced forms and techniques
Project exploration may include (but is not limited to):
• Concentric or nesting bowl sets
• Combining multiple thrown pieces into one form
• Long-necked vases
• Closed cylinders
• Tall vessels
• Throwing off the hump
Class Structure:
Weeks 1–4: Each class will begin with a demonstration of a technique, concept, or project idea that students can explore during open throwing time.
Week 5: Students will focus on trimming and finishing their pieces, adding decorative details as desired.
Week 6: Students will glaze their fired work.
Includes: One 25lb bag of clay, studio glazes, and bisque firings. Additional clay is available for purchase.
This class is perfect for potters who want to challenge themselves, expand their skill set, and develop more complex and refined pieces on the wheel.
