While anyone in the community can benefit from this information, this training session is specifically geared towards individuals within Michigan State University (MSU) Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) and Student Life and Engagement (SLE) Programs.Hope Network is honored to partner with Michigan State University to host Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). This is an 8 hour skills-based training course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among Adults.
Mental Health First Aid training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial assistance and support to an individual who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use challenges by improving understanding and providing an action plan to safely identify and respond to a potential mental illness or substance use challenge.
MHFA participants will learn about the role of a Mental Health First Aider, Common Mental Disorders in the Unites States, Signs and Symptoms, MHFA Action Plan, and Self-Care.
AFTER THE COURSE, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:
Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
Understand how to interact with a person in crisis.
Know how to connect a person with help.
Use self-care tools and techniques.
Training Expectations:
This class takes place in-person at Michigan State University (Brody Hall (Room 134) 633 S. Harrison Rd. East Lansing, MI 48824).
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early. If you join more than 10 minutes after the training start time, you will not receive credit for the course.).
There is a lunch break and two additional breaks scheduled.
We do not offer lunch with this training. You are welcome to bring your own (we do have a microwave), and there are a plethora of restaurants and fast casual places to grab lunch.
This training is conducted by two Hope Network employee's who are also certified USA Mental Health First Aid Instructors from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
