Join us for a special program that will connect the ecological science and cultural knowledge of wild rice, or manoomin. Learn from Lac du Flambeau tribal member Stephanie Thompson as she shares the historical, cultural, and spiritual significance of manoomin from an Ojibwe perspective, along with traditional teachings, respectful harvesting practices, and the enduring relationship between Ojibwe people and wild rice. Additionally, Amy Carrozzino-Lyon, restoration scientist and Titus Seilheimer, fisheries biologist, will discuss the ecological importance of wild rice and local restoration projects. Afterwards, everyone is invited to help us plant wild rice seed along the boardwalk and in the marsh (weather conditions permitting).
