The fee for this class covers up to 25lbs of clay, glazes and firings. Additional clay will be available for purchase.
Come explore ceramic hand building with Madalyn Olson. In this beginner class you will learn the clay basics, including how to slip and score, create functional pieces like mugs and bowls using slabs and pinch pots. You will also have the opportunity to create 3 dimensional decorative and sculptural works, along with learning techniques for decorating and glazing your handmade creations.
Madalyn Olson brings over a decade of teaching experience and a background in early childhood education, ensuring a supportive, student-centered , go at your own pace, approach that encourages creativity and personal expression.
Madalyn began exploring sculpture with her polymer clay hyperrealist/surrealist portrait sculptures. In recent years she has shifted her medium to ceramics. Her personal work is greatly influenced by the natural world and human emotion. She now works full time as a lead ceramist for an artisan ceramic fountain company.
Also included with the purchase of this class is student access to this session's self guided Clay Labs where current students will be able to hone skills and work on projects. No instruction during Clay Labs but they will be monitored. Clay Labs will be Mondays from 6-8pm and Thursdays from 2-5pm from January 29th to April 2nd.
