Every adoptee has a story. And every story deserves space to be heard, understood and valued.
Adoptees Rise is a one-day event centered on the adoptee experience and the understanding that adoption is not simply a moment in someone’s story, but a lifelong journey.
Join us at First Baptist Lodi as we create space to listen to the often unheard or misunderstood experiences of adoptees, learn how to create safe places for their stories, and discover practical ways to walk alongside them with greater understanding and care.
Our special guest speaker, Cam Lee Small of Adoption Literacy, is an adoptee, author, therapist and TEDx speaker who brings together his own lived experience and professional expertise. Cam will share practical tools for understanding and supporting adoptees throughout the different seasons of their lives. Additional guest speakers and personal testimonies will help provide an even broader look at the adoptee experience.
Adoptees Rise is for adoptees, adoptive and prospective adoptive parents, birth parents, foster parents, therapists, educators, faith community leaders, family members and friends of adoptees, and anyone who wants to better understand and support the adoptees in their lives.
Everyone is welcome at Adoptees Rise. While the event is hosted at First Baptist Lodi and faith may naturally be part of some of the stories and perspectives shared, this event is not just for people of faith. No particular religious background or belief is expected or required to attend. Our hope is to create a welcoming space where people from all backgrounds can listen, learn and better understand the lifelong adoptee experience.
Lunch and snacks are included with registration, and attendees will also have an opportunity to connect with local organizations and resources during our Resource Faire.
Continuing Education hours will be available for licensed foster care providers.
