Adolescent Development and Relationship Building

Description: Today’s teens face a myriad of challenges, some which are part of this stage of life, and many others that are unique to this point in history. This workshop will focus on both the challenges and opportunities we encounter when working with adolescents. We will explore adolescent brain development and how it impacts them at key points, what “typical” development looks like, and how poverty, trauma, and substance use can complicate this. Participants will learn strategies to help teens achieve crucial developmental tasks in spite of the obstacles they may face. This workshop will also offer techniques and insights to engage adolescents in order to form healthy and constructive relationships with them, even if they are reluctant or or have difficulty trusting.
