This 2 day workshop is an invitation to slow down, listen closely and enbrace riyaaz - not just as a routine but as a way of being, as a sadhana. This immersive vocal intensive explores voice, raga and nuances through interactive live demonstration and guided practice. Across 6 sessions, we will move from the physical to the mental foundations of riyaaz

11.00 to 13.00 ; 14.00 to 16.00 ; 16.30 to 18.00
With raag sangeet as our basis, we will approach the idea of riyaaz by taking a morning raga and exploring:
: The physical and mental aspects of practice
: Various methods, techniques & structures to build & deepen riyaaz
We will work through afternoon raga how to structure and the deconstruct the pathways of a raga. How do we navigate its unfolding, presenting the raga not just through grammar and syntax, but as a mood?
Sunday 31st August 2025
We will look closely at nuance using more that one raga, studying elements such as gamak, meend, murki, khatka, taan, sargam, and aakaar as tools of expression. We will also explore story telling through bandish.
We will turn to rhythm as a key expressive element, covering important tools such as Teentaal, Ektaal, Jhaptaal and Rupak - paired with bandishes to demonstrate how taal enhances the expression of raag.
A comparative study of raags to help us reflect and integrate our learning
