Activist Women and the Challenge to Patriarchy in the English Revolution

The newly launched Women’s History seminar is proudly housed in Murray Edwards College, one of the two women-only colleges of the University of Cambridge. True to the college’s mission, the ultimate purpose of the seminar is to promote the status of women.

In academia, despite the recent efforts to redress gender imbalance, women remain relatively marginalised to this day. This also means that, in the field of History and beyond, women's perspectives and experiences continue to provide intellectually productive lenses through which to view the past. The seminar introduces cutting-edge research focused on women and offers new ways of understanding history.

For the 2025-26 academic year, it will run twice each in Michaelmas and Lent terms. Although primarily a research seminar, it also has strong educational aims, and we hope to attract a broad audience - particularly undergraduate and postgraduate students.
