Background.....
Last summer, using the “One Big Ugly Bill” (H.R. 1), the Trump White House and its allies pushed through more than $1 trillion in cuts to federal healthcare and HIV/AIDS programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and PEPFAR.
That money was redirected into massive new spending for ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and the Pentagon. Meanwhile, corporations and the ultra-wealthy got huge, permanent tax cuts. ICE and CBP funding tripled to nearly to $200 billion, fueling aggressive, racist raids that tear individuals and families from their communities. These individuals are detained in sprawling camps where healthcare is minimal, and conditions are inhumane. Many have already died in ICE detention, including people living with HIV.
Palantir Technologies provides the surveillance and targeting software used by ICE (under the perverse name “ImmigrationOS”) and takes in billions in government contracts, with about 60% of its revenue coming from the U.S. government. The company is also the primary Pentagon contractor supplying AI systems used in U.S. military targeting “K*ll chains.”
With the additional $155 billion in Pentagon funding from H.R. 1, the U.S. military-industrial complex is now waging an unpopular, unlawful, AI-powered war against Iran, leaving hundreds of civilians dead and many U.S. service members wounded, maimed, and killed. After the attack on Iran, Palantir’s stock rose fifteen percent, even as the broader market fell.
Lawmakers are now demanding answers from the Pentagon about the role of AI in U.S. strikes that’ve killed civilians, including over a hundred children attending an elementary school in Minab, Iran, and several teenagers playing inside a gymnasium in Lamerd, Iran.
