Athens Community Theatre is offering two special events as part of this production. Opening night, Thursday, February 13 is a special “Club Experience” event where guests may enter “the club” [theater] early for table service and to enjoy mingling before the 7:00 PM performance.
Following the first sunday matinee, Sunday, February 16 around 5:00 PM, director Dann B. Black will lead a talk back dialogue between performers and audience members. Ticket holders for any performance may attend the talk back that will begin around 5 PM.
This cast is all leads: Miah Baker, Dann B. Black, Joshua Bragg, and Crystal Hall.
The band will be lead by pianist and conductor, Wendel Werner, and includes Matt Dannel on percussion, Cody Hensley Sharp on horns, and Simon Morris on sax. Pam Wilburn will serve as rehearsal accompanist and Music Director.
The production team includes G. David Brown, executive producer and technical director; Lauren Brown, producer; Cynthia McCowan, production coordinator; Colby Pilkey, assistant director & production stage manager; Traci McKenzie, assistant stage manager; and Tyler Peaden, movement consultant.
Assembled under the expert eye of director/lyricist, Richard Maltby, Jr., Ain't Misbehavin' is one of the most popular, well-crafted revues of all time and winner of the 1978 Tony Award for Best Musical. It celebrates the distinct music of Harlem, specifically that of Fats Waller, and its influence on American music in a cabaret-style tour-de-force performance by five performers.
The inimitable Thomas "Fats" Waller rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club and that jumpin' new beat, swing music. Although not quite a biography, Ain't Misbehavin' evokes the delightful humor and infectious energy of this American original as a versatile cast struts, strums and sings the songs that he made famous in a career that ranged from uptown clubs to downtown Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood and concert stages in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Tickets for Ain't Misbehavin' are on sale now. Patrons should select the ticket type that corresponds to their desired seating section: "Table Seating" or "Riser Seating." While ticket prices for both sections are the same, there is limited "Table Seating" available, so purchasing early is recommended. Prices for ACT tickets range from $15 to $25. Tickets for the February 13 “Club Experience” performance are $25.
