Our voyage begins with Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, a vivid narrative that journeys from the eerie, unnerving stillness of a windless ocean to the exhilarating, triumphant rush of wind in the sails.
We then delve into the turbulent, psychological waters of Britten’s Four Sea Interludes. Drawn from his dramatic opera Peter Grimes, these are not just pictures of the sea, but raw, haunting expressions of its moods—from the chilly, bleak light of dawn to the glittering, unsettling calm of moonlight and the raw fury of a full-blown storm.
