Sunday 5 July 2026
9:45 AM - 1:15 PM
Join us for a very special walk across the tidal causeway from Overton to Sunderland Point with an exploration of this tiny yet important peninsula of Morecambe Bay.
Once we reach Sunderland Point, on foot, we'll explore the fascinating history, village, estuary, view points and sites on the Point.
A fabulous place for birdlife as well as a rich and deep history, we'll aim to give you a thorough introduction to this unique area of Morecambe Bay.
The causeway is covered twice a day by the tide so our walk is carefully timed to begin and end with safe passage along the exposed tidal road.
Walking across the causeway to Sunderland Point offers a gentle pace of approach, views of wildlife and a sense of atmosphere.
Route, distance and footwear: the route is approximately 6km so requires a reasonable level of fitness. The terrain is mixed with some uneven footpaths, shingle and cobbles along the coast and potentially slippy/muddy conditions along the causeway.
We aim for a leisurely pace with time to pause and reflect and enjoy the peace, birds and sights.
Meeting: we’ll meet in the car park opposite The Globe (pub/hotel), Overton.

Toilets: there are no toilets at the start of the walk, but there are public toilets once we arrive at Sunderland Point.
Please note we are not permitting dogs on the walk. This is to give maximum protection to wildlife and birdlife on the Point.
