ACORN Fix Our Rentals Forum

HALIFAX: IT'S TIME TO FIX OUR RENTALS!
Across the city, tenants are dealing with pests, mold, leaks, broken elevators, neglected repairs, water shutoffs, and landlords who leave problems unresolved for months or even years.
Rent is going up. Repairs aren't getting done. And too often, there are no real consequences for landlords who let buildings fall apart.
ACORN is bringing members and tenants from across Halifax Region together for a Fix Our Rentals Forum to put these problems on the table and talk about how we can organize for change.
✊ WHAT'S HAPPENING?
🏚️ HEAR WHAT RENTERS ARE FACING
We'll hear from ACORN members about the conditions they are dealing with in their buildings, including pest infestations, neglected repairs, and other serious maintenance problems.
📋 WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH THE RENTAL REGISTRY?
ACORN members fought to win HRM's Rental Registry. But registering buildings isn't enough. We'll break down what's missing from the current system and why HRM needs to do more to actually identify problems and protect tenants.
🔥 LEARN HOW ACORN IS FIGHTING BACK
We'll lay out ACORN's Fix the Rental Registry campaign and what we're demanding from HRM to make the Rental Registry a real tool for accountability, not just a list of buildings.
🏛️ HRM COUNCILLORS WILL BE INVITED
We're inviting City Councillors to come hear directly about the problems renters are facing and what ACORN is demanding from the city.
📣 BRING YOUR VOICE AND YOUR EXPERIENCE
Whether you've been fighting your landlord over repairs, dealing with pests, watching problems get ignored, or simply wondering why renters have so little power when things go wrong—we want you in the room.
This is about more than one bad building or one bad landlord.
It's about tenants across HRM having safe, healthy, properly maintained homes, and whether our city is willing to hold landlords accountable to make that happen.
ACORN has already organized to win the Rental Registry. We've put rotten rental conditions in the spotlight through our Rotten Rentals campaign. Now we're organizing to make sure the Rental Registry actually works.
We're inviting ALL tenants across the region to join the forum and have your voice heard!
📅 Monday, September 21st
⏰ 6:00 PM
📍 Halifax Central Library - Lindsay Children's Room
Bring a neighbour. Bring your building's story. Bring your anger. We can win this together.
