About this Event
Are you or your church involved in mission outreach to overseas students or immigrants? Are you planning an overseas mission trip? Are you looking for Bible-based ESL materials for your Sunday school kids?
Course description:
This course equips teachers and missionaries with an innovative method that integrates the student-centered, TESL teaching methodology in teaching the English Bible. Teaching English through the Bible is a time‐honored way in introducing Christian concepts in various settings, including campus, mission fields, Sunday schools, churches etc. In this training, you will learn how to conduct mission work in a cultural sensitive way, based on an evangelistic English enhancement course (ACE course)*. Trainees who complete the course will learn how to teach biblical arts, cultural elements and English expressions in the Bible in a creative way.
*ACE course (Learn Arts, Culture and English Expressions through the Bible) is an evangelistic course developed by Society for English Learning through Biblical Literature, aka SELBL (www.selbl.org) that integrates the student‐centered, TESL teaching methodology in teaching the English Bible. It has proven success in places such as China, Hong Kong, Canada and United Kingdom. Over 90 % students became more interested in learning the Bible and English after taking ACE course.
Recommendation:
'The SELBL material is a very straightforward, easy to understand introduction to English usage and idioms. In using the Bible it draws upon the text which is easily the most influential and accessible book in the English language. I commend these courses.' - Rev. Peter White, Former Minister of Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church, Glasgow and Former Principal of Glasgow Bible College
"My students had attended the course and they had been greatly benefitted. Apart from learning English they had the opportunity to share, to discuss, to perform, to appreciate art and music of the western culture. This is really a very good course for students, highly recommended." - Dr. Wong Fook Yee, Adjunct Professor, Geography and Resources Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
