Academy Conversion: Opportunities and Challenges

With the political environment now more settled many sector leaders and governors are again finding time to contemplate and plan for the future educational landscape.

As the Academy Sector continues to grow and evolve there are many positive opportunities to work collaboratively across the locality for the benefit of sustainable school improvement, financial stability and staff recruitment, training and retention, and ultimately maximise opportunity to improve the life chances of children and young people.

You are invited to learn more about the national and local academy sector, the legal process as well as the things to be mindful of when exploring a cultural fit for your organisation along with some top tips about what to avoid and how to manage the transition.

The event, hosted by Edukos Trust is FREE and will offer plenty of opportunity for generic or specific questions with legal and educational experts as well as representatives from Edukos. Refreshments will be provided.

The session is open to Headteachers and Chair/Vice Chairs of Governors. These events have been extremely popular and therefore booking are limited to 3 per setting

John Flanagan - John specialises in corporate law with experience of handling mergers and acquisitions, large refinances, advising on company structures and corporate governance. He is a key member firm’s well regarded Education Team, acting on all corporate matters for the firm’s clients who work in this sector.

Sarah Young - Sarah has over 20 years of school and Trust leadership experience. Until December 2021 she was Director of Education for a successful Multi Academy Trust in East Yorkshire. As Executive Lead from inception of the Trust through the first five years of development she initiated processes for shared pedagogy, curriculum expectation, CPDL, Headteacher coaching and Leadership Development programmes as well as leading on Strategic Partnerships.

Chris Huscroft - Chris has 15+ years of leadership experience with over 10 of those years as a leader within the Multi Academy Trust (MAT) sector. Since 2020, Chris has been the full time Chief Executive Officer of Edukos Trust, an East Riding based MAT. Chris has overseen the conversion of 5 schools into Edukos Trust and has therefore worked closely with the East Riding and Department for Education to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. These relationships continue to be a strong feature of his work and will thus aide any future conversions to Edukos Trust.
