Abuela Records - Label launch event

Abuela Records is founded as a tribute to Leon’s mother, Kaye “Abuela” Johnson — a personal, authentic story rooted in love, memory, and shared musical experience.

Drawing inspiration from classic, respected record labels including Atlantic, Blue Note, Impulse and Chisa, Abuela records aspires to become recognised within a serious, soulful musical tradition.

Passion, community, diversity, communication, and integrity are the reason the label exists, and a focus on physical releases, sound quality, and collectability differentiates Abuela Records from disposable, algorithm-led music culture.

Shadow Quartet will perform with their debut album available as the first release for Abuela Records.

Omowale Band featuring the fierce and inspirational poetry of Michelle Scally Clarke will also perform preceding their first release on Abuela Records.

A surprise third act is to be confirmed as the latest addition to the Abuela family.
