Join us for an immersive creative experience where art, storytelling, and self-expression come together.
In this six-hour mixed media workshop, you’ll learn how to create a deeply personal self-portrait using layered painting techniques, collage, texture, and expressive mark-making. Through guided instruction and hands-on exploration, you’ll discover how to build a portrait that reflects more than just appearance — a layered expression of your story, identity, and creativity.
No advanced painting experience is required. This class is designed to support beginners as well as artists who want to expand their mixed media skills.

Seating is limited in order to keep the class supportive, interactive, and hands-on.
-What You’ll Learn
Throughout the workshop we will explore a variety of mixed media techniques, including:
• Creating a dynamic abstract background • Working with acrylic washes and expressive mark-making • Incorporating inks and layered color techniques • Using gloss gel, modeling paste, and glitter gel to build texture and depth • Learning basic portrait drawing techniques to map out facial structure • Integrating collage elements into your artwork to add meaning and visual interest
Participants will also explore how personal materials can become part of the artwork itself.
You are welcome to bring items such as:
• journal pages • handwritten notes or letters • printed photographs • decorative paper or napkins • tissue paper • meaningful imagery or text
These elements can be incorporated into your painting to create a portrait that carries personal symbolism and story.
What’s Included
All materials are provided for you.
Participants will receive:
• a 16 × 20 gallery-wrapped canvas • acrylic paints and mixed media materials • brushes and texture tools • inks, gloss gel, modeling paste, and glitter gel • collage materials
In addition to your finished artwork, you’ll also take home a small personal supply kit so you can continue experimenting with these techniques in your own creative practice.
What You’ll Leave With
By the end of the workshop you’ll leave with:
• a completed 16 × 20 mixed media self-portrait • new painting and collage techniques • a deeper understanding of layered mixed media processes • a small collection of art supplies to continue creating at home
Most importantly, you’ll leave with the experience of creating something uniquely personal — a portrait built through layers of color, texture, and story.

You can either:

After you reach out, you will be asked to send a selfie or portrait photo of yourself. This image will be printed and prepared ahead of time so that it can be used as a reference during the portrait portion of the workshop.
This step allows the instructor to prepare personalized materials for each participant so that everyone can begin the portrait process smoothly during class.
You will also receive additional guidance on:
• preparing collage materials you may want to bring • optional personal papers or images to include in your artwork • general preparation tips to help you get the most out of the workshop experience
