Abstract Painting Bootcamp with Marney Schorr! All levels welcome.When: Ten Fridays 930-1130 hybrid in person and virtual starting April 26th and ending July 5th.
Description: In this ten week abstract painting workshop, we will review and discuss works of abstract painters and their influence on abstract art. We will learn and explore methods of developing a painting from inception to completion based on artistic elements such as line, placement, composition and color theory as well as abstract painting techniques including gestural mark making, abstract composition and color field painting. Warm up exercises and time for painting will be allotted each week, as well as sharing our art and constructively supporting each other's process and growth. This workshop is for all levels of painters. Beginners are welcome.
Homework: Please plan to spend at least 2 hours a week on homework assignments between classes. Homework assignments will include journal entries, sketches, small studies and finishing works started in class.
Instruction: Each participant will receive hands-on individual and group instruction in this small workshop setting - up to 5 spots are available in person and 5 spots on Zoom from Marney's large private art studio at NUarts Gallery & Studios in downtown Pittsfield. The air conditioned studio is within walking distance to shops and eateries such as Liberty Pizza and Dottie's Coffee Shop.
Materials: We will be working in acrylic paint on multiple size canvases. Please bring your own acrylic paints (and brushes if you prefer).Materials available in the studio include table top easels, gesso, student grade canvases sizes 8x10, 11x14, 16x20 and 20x24, nylon, hog hair and camel hair small, medium and large paint brushes, small liner brushes, painting tools including sponges, brayers, a variety of shapes of palette knives and rubber tools, large rulers and circle shapes to trace, gel medium and modeling paste, baskets of mixed media recycled materials, assortment of glues, palettes, water cups, slop sink, paper towels, chairs with pillows.
Cost: $350 for the whole class or $40 per session pay as you go. An additional $50 nonrefundable materials fee is required to hold your spot (total $400).
Marney's Bio: Marney Schorr earned her BA in Visual Art and her MA in Art Therapy. She has been teaching art and art therapy workshops for 15 years in her private practice, at Springfield College and OLLI at BCC and professional development classes at Berkshire County School District and various Art Therapy Associations. Marney has been a professional abstract and surrealist painter for thirty years and has exhibited in New York and Massachusetts.
