ABC, 123 | Trek to Annapurna Base Camp, Nepal
Sanctuary to the gods and a reminder of the vastness of the human spirit, the Himalayas have been beckoning sages, yogis, artists, philosophers, and trekkers for ages! The king of mountains, home to enchanting Buddhist monasteries among the snow-capped peaks and billowing prayer flags, peaks that reach for the stars and break every record, tranquility and calm amongst backdrop of unimaginable beauty that will literally take your breath away!
The massive massif of the Annapurna Range is packed with marvels, with one peak reaching over 8,000 meters, thirteen peaks over 7,000 meters, and sixteen more over 6,000 meters, all within a stretch of about 60km, confined by the Marshyangdi River to the north and east, the deepest gorge in the world, the Kali Gandaki to the west, and Pokhara valley to the south, the natural wonders of this range are titanic and awe-inspiring!
The Annapurna Sanctuary and the trek to Annapurna Base Camp traverses wide ecosystems from plush valleys and riverbeds to Rhododendron forests and Gurung villages, all the way up to moonscapes of barren beauty, with tea houses and temples along a trail considered the most beautiful in the world! With a start of 2,625 meters all the way up to 4,130 meters, and each day delivering sun rises and sets unlike any other, we’ll hardly notice our steps surrounded by peaks as famous as they are record-setting, we’re on a journey to the roof of the world!
Let's go!
Day 1 // Pokhara Arrival
Meeting at airport for a direct flight to Pokhara. Immigration formalities, dinner, overnight in hotel.
Day 2 // Pokhara – Ghandruk Phedi – Chhomrong
After breakfast, and start our drive to Ghandruk Phedi. We’ll reach the start of our trail in the afternoon and begin few hours trek to Chhomrong, a Gurung community of farmers in the mountains and gateway to ABC! Dinner in guesthouse.
Day 3 // Chhomrong – Himalaya Hotel
Today we start along the Chhomrong River before ascending to Sinuwa and through dense jungle befor lunch. Afterwards, continue upwards towards Himalaya Hotel.
Day 4 // Himalaya Hotel - ABC
After a hearty breakfast we’ll start with a gentle path along the riverbed before the challenging ascent from Bagar to Machhapachhre Base Camp. We’ll not even notice, though, as we’re greeted by our first clear views of the Annapurna peaks. As the vegetation clears and the path widens, the near-vertical south face of Annapurna will tower above. With a healthy 6hrs of trekking behind us, we’ll settle into ABC and toast our arrival!
Day 5 // ABC – Bamboo
With a sunrise over ABC and a strong cup of coffee, we’ll start our descent at twice the speed and reach Bamboo by late afternoon where we’ll spend the night. With Annapurna at our backs, it will be hard not to turn around and take another look.
Day 6 // Bamboo – Jhinu Dada – Pokhara
We’ll continue down to Jhinu Dada with a morning trek of just a few hours before we reach our ride back to Pokhara where we check-in to hotel and enjoy the fruits of our accomplishment with a hot shower, a restaurant meal, and a comfortable night’s rest.
Time to celebrate the trip with cold beverage and perhaps trekkers massage, before its time to get back to airport for return flight home.
