About this Event
COLE SOLIS JATIVA is an Ecuadorian interdisciplinary artist with a specialization in printmaking, poetry, and book arts. Currently she is pursuing two graduate degree programs at SUNY New Paltz: an MA In Creative Writing and an MFA in Printmaking at SUNY New Paltz. She considers her work to be driven by an environmentally conscious lens with a focus on sustainability and her footprint. Regarding minimal waste, for example, Cole has a passion for handmade paper.
Conceptually she embraces the dance between poetry and visual. She believes the symbiosis between language and visual continually nurtures a path into the multiple life forms creativity intends to invite in. In her latest work, “Sheathed by the Wing of an Albatross,” a limited edition artist book, she deconstructs the psychological turmoil found in children of immigrated individuals, like herself, through storytelling in her poetry. A vital and initiative work embarking her career, the redemption piece is a form of mending wounds and expressing gratitude for her treaded journey. There are 9 prints paired with 9 poems. The images are viscosity inked collagraph and drypoints and the words are typewritten on her Olympia De Luxe typewriter.
MARY ZHOU is currently exploring Chinese ancestral spirituality and queer diasporic identity through visual poetry, lyric essay, and movement. They are the author of cave mouth tongue loose (The Head & The Hand Press, 2024) in collaboration with visual artist Nora E Luks.
