Hear from Dara McAnulty as he’s joined by Wicken Fen's Ajay Tegala to chat about the wonder of the nocturnal world around us. His new book 'A Wild Child's Guide to Nature at Night' takes you through nature at night in five different habitats in Britain and Ireland – meet hedgehogs and moths in the garden; bats, owls, foxes and badgers in woodland; glow worms on the coast; Manx Shearwater in the sky and corncrakes, dormice and woodcock on the farm. Learn about circadian rhythms, hibernation, echolocation, biofluorescence, murmurations, the dawn chorus and how to use the stars for orientation. There are also top tips for attracting wildlife and creating havens for nocturnal animals and insects.Dara won the Wainwright Prize in 2020 for his debut 'Diary of a Young Naturalist'. His followed this with books for children - 'Wild Child: A Journey Through Nature' and 'A Wild Child’s Book of Birds'. In 2023 he was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the environment and to people with autism spectrum disorder. This will be a great chance to meet and hear from one of our best young campaigners. As Dara is based in Cambridge while he studies, he has chosen to take this chance to see Wicken Fen for this special book event.
