A Warrior in Time: Screening Native American Veterans Documentary Project

Did you know Native Americans have served in the U.S. military in every conflict since before the Revolutionary War? An estimated 12,000 Native Americans served during WWI, despite not being recognized as American citizens until 1924. Although a smaller demographic, Native Americans have an enlistment rate three times than any other race into the Armed Services. When asked why they serve in such large numbers, Native veterans often reply “Because this is our homeland”.

Join local producer Louis Vasseur (Ojibwe) to learn more about Native American veterans and their contributions defending the United States. Mr. Vasseur will share several documentary shorts he produced in partnership with students at the Harlem Veterans Project. As another Veterans’ Day approaches, learn more about the significant, yet largely unknown, contributions Native American veterans have made defending our country.

A questions and answer portion will follow the presentation. This program is for all ages. No registration is required.
