A Walk Through a Disappeared Downtown presented by Gonechester's Geoffrey Zeiner

Join the Perinton Historical Society at the Fairport Public Library on Tuesday, January 19, 2027 at 7:00pm as Gonechester blogger Geoffrey Zeiner takes us on a visual tour of Main Street starting at the corner of State Street down to Front Street and back, while discussing the history of buildings that are no longer there. Numerous photographs, illustrations, advertisements and articles show the buildings that once were, the businesses which once operated within them, and the people who made it all possible.
Sixth-generation Rochesterian Geoffrey Zeiner has long held a fascination for history. Since the 1870s, his Zeiner ancestors worked as ragpickers, cabinetmakers, cigar box and sausage makers and policemen. Geoffrey's O'Brien side of the family provided the city with prominent pharmacists.
Combining an interest in what came before with a love of maps and a love of architecture, Geoffrey soon found himself poring over the detailed plat maps of Rochester at times past. When disappeared structures were found, he spent much time trying to find visual depictions: engravings, photos, even early Google Maps.
This event is free and is open to the public, but registration is required through Fairport Public Library and begins December 1.
