An interactive storytelling journey in partnership with the inaugural Public Spaces WeekSome moments unfold without a plan. A wrong turn down a shaded path. A bench you didn’t expect to sit on. A conversation with a stranger, a memory that surprises you, a moment of peace (or chaos) under open sky. “A Walk in the Park” isn’t always easy, but it’s always revealing. It can be literal or metaphorical, joyful or complicated, quiet or unforgettable. Maybe it was a stroll that changed everything. Maybe it was an accomplishment or decision that only seemed simple at the time.
We’re inviting you to step up and share a five-minute story inspired by “A Walk in the Park.” Take us with you — through twists, turns, detours, and discoveries. Whether it’s a real park or public space that inspired you, a moment of ease, or an experience that proved nothing is ever quite that simple, we want to hear it. Our featured storyteller is Margaret Peth, the co-lead of the Reimagining the Civic Commons initiative and the Operations Manager of the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority. Margaret has a passion to make public spaces more open and inviting, sparking connections across differences that citizens never knew were possible.
In a special collaboration with the Reimagining the Civic Commons initiative for Public Spaces Week, we will have a special start to our storytelling evening.
Stories will still start promptly at 7 p.m. at Grant’s Lounge as usual, but we invite you to join us for an ACTUAL storytelling walk in the park. We’ll meet at 5:30 p.m. at Rosa Parks Square on First Street and explore the parks alongside special storytelling prompts along a one hour walk that will help you get to know your neighbors in a deeper way. If your goal was ever to meet someone new and have a grounded, connected experience (without a screen) — maybe somebody who’s had a very different life and experiences than you — join us for a fun adventure. The walk will end at Grant’s Lounge, and then we’ll begin our monthly storytelling event.
