A Tribute to the music of Cole Porter
About this Event
Jazz Nebula’s Quartet, featuring Kim Szabo (piano and vocals), John Reid (saxophone, flute, and clarinet), Jason Clarke (upright bass) and Ed Batley (drums), will perform a selection of some of Cole Porter's most well-known songs.
Cole Porter's songs are noted for witty, urbane lyrics and many became standards, having achieved great success on Broadway and in film. His most successful musical, Kiss Me Kate won the first Tony Award for Best Musical. Many of his songs have become “standards,” played often by generations of jazz musicians — with fantastic melodies and interesting chord progressions — they are fun to play! Luminaries to have recorded his music: John Coltrane, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Cannonball Adderley, among them. Some have even written “contrafacts,” new songs on the chord progressions of his songs!
Doors open at 1 pm and the show starts at 2 pm.
This is the fifth concert in a series of six concerts presented by Jazz Nebula at Scarboro United Church for its 2025-26 season (The Great American Songbook, Horace Silver, George Gershwin, The Great Saxophonists, Cole Porter, and Thelonious Monk). See the coloured brochure below for more details.
