A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald: Kieran Brown with the Alex Murphy Trio

Celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday one month early at the NJW with NYC based singer Kieran Brown and the Alex Murphy Trio. With a strong love for improvisation and revitalizing jazz for the 21st century, Kieran has been hailed as “a true force on the NY and global jazz scene…with a heavy grounding in jazz, great tuning, phrasing and incredible tone, the future of jazz and the American Songbook lies in the hands of this incredibly talented artist.” Joined by one of Nashville’s preeminent jazz pianists, Alex Murphy, the band will also feature Jack Aylor on bass, and Ryan Brasley on drums. 

About the artists:

Kieran Brown is a NYC based multi-genre vocalist, composer, and arranger with a strong concentration in Jazz, R&B, and The American Songbook. With a strong love for improvisation and songwriting, Kieran hopes to be a part of the young generation of musicians preserving and revitalizing jazz for the 21st century. Upon moving to NYC in 2023, Kieran has performed all over town with highly esteemed musicians such as former members of the John Pizzarelli Quartet Konrad Paszkudzki and Mike Karn, as well as renowned Jazz Drummer Joe Farnsworth, Pianist Emmet Cohen, Benny Benack III and many others. She has recently appeared at Birdland, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, The Django, Mezzrow, and other notable venues. Kieran's debut record "Loving You" comes out on July 11th on Cellar Music Group record label, produced by Cory Weeds.

Alex Murphy, a Chicago-born jazz pianist, honed his craft under esteemed mentors Ron Perrillo and Dana Hall at DePaul University. He has performed at renowned venues such as the Jazz Showcase, Green Mill, and Andy’s Jazz Club, and was featured in a master class with jazz piano great Bill Charlap at Symphony Center. His festival appearances include the Chicago Jazz Festival and various Midwest jazz festivals. Alex has shared the stage with acclaimed artists like Nicholas Payton, Dave Douglas, Bobby Broom, Joel Frahm, and Dezron Douglas. Now expanding his career into the Nashville jazz scene, he continues to build a strong presence in both live performance and studio work.
