Detroit, MI – The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series proudly presents A Tribute to Lenny White, honoring one of jazz-fusion’s most innovative and dynamic drummers. This special evening takes place at the legendary Aretha’s Jazz Café on Monday Night, bringing together musicians and jazz lovers alike to celebrate the rhythms and artistry of a true pioneer.
Doors open at 6:00 PM and the show begins at 7:30 PM.
Tickets are $35.Hosted by the charismatic Mike Bonner, with an opening performance by Sky Covington, this unforgettable night will also feature the powerhouse talent of Matt “Matador” Lemons, a dynamic drummer whose skill, passion, and stage presence embody the energy of jazz-fusion. About Lenny WhiteLenny White (b. December 19, 1949) is one of the most celebrated drummers in jazz and fusion history. Best known for his work with Chick Corea’s Return to Forever, White helped define the sound of jazz-fusion in the 1970s. His drumming combined explosive power with intricate precision, blending the raw energy of rock with the sophistication of jazz.White’s early break came when he played on Miles Davis’ groundbreaking album Bitches Brew (1969), which opened the door to a career performing with legends including Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock, and Jaco Pastorius. As both a leader and collaborator, White pushed boundaries with albums such as Venusian Summer and Present Tense, influencing generations of drummers and musicians across genres.A true innovator, Lenny White’s grooves and creativity reshaped modern jazz, making him a cornerstone of fusion’s golden era.
