About this Event
Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with an evening of Asian food, cultural storytelling, and community connection at A Taste of Asian Flavors / Chinatowns Around the World & Global Tables. Featuring food tastings from participating restaurant partners alongside a live panel conversation, this special gathering explores how Chinatown legacies, diasporic stories, and culinary traditions continue to shape cultural and commercial life in Vancouver and far beyond.
Featured panelists:
Amélie and Vincent Nguyễn — sibling co-founders of Vancouver’s acclaimed restaurants “Anh and Chi” and “Good Thief,” recognized for transforming their family’s culinary legacy into one of the city’s most distinctive contemporary Vietnamese dining brands.
Wiley Wei-Chiun Ho — Vancouver-area writer and author of The Astronaut Children of Dunbar Street: A Memoir, a debut memoir that has drawn attention for its poignant exploration of migration, family separation, identity, and belonging.
Ben Hum — President of “NAAAP Toronto,” entrepreneur, investor, and longtime community builder who has helped grow one of the network’s strongest chapters while championing Asian professional leadership and entrepreneurship.
Joey Wong — owner and operator of “Dollar Meat Store,” one of Vancouver Chinatown’s longstanding legacy businesses, representing more than half a century of neighbourhood commercial history and culinary tradition.
Stephanie Yuen — respected Vancouver food journalist, recipe developer, and author whose writing for publications including “Edible BC,” “EAT,” and “Vancouver Magazine” has brought historical depth, visibility, and critical attention to Chinese and Asian food culture in the city.
Carol Lee — Chair of the “Vancouver Chinatown Foundation,” entrepreneur, and prominent civic leader widely recognized for her role in Chinatown revitalization, heritage preservation, and community-building initiatives. She is also the owner of the beloved neighbourhood institution “Chinatown BBQ.”
William Liu — second-generation leader of “Kam Wai Dim Sum,” continuing a family-run Chinatown business that has served Vancouver since 1991 and remains part of the neighbourhood’s living cultural fabric.
The evening will feature:

- Food tastings from participating restaurant partners

- Networking and community engagement
Together, the evening offers a rich celebration of food, heritage, entrepreneurship, and intergenerational storytelling, highlighting the journeys that carry Asian culinary culture from local Chinatowns to global tables.
About NAAAP
NAAAP Vancouver Next Gen is the emerging Vancouver chapter of the “National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP),” and this event marks its soft launch. Founded in New York City in 1982, NAAAP has grown into one of North America’s most established pan-Asian professional networks, spanning roughly 30 chapters, several thousand active members, and a wider community reach of more than 20,000 professionals. Through leadership development, career advancement, and community engagement, it continues to foster connection across industries and generations across a growing chapter network in the United States and Canada.
