The Luzerne County Historical Society is proud to announce it is once again hosting a holiday program. On Saturday and Sunday, December 5th and 6th, 2026, the Society will host “A Swetland Family Christmas", at the Swetland Homestead, 885 Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming. This years event will focus on Civil War Era Christmas.
Inside the house, guests will be transported to the 1860s and will learn all about the holiday season during the 19th century.See what passed for decorations, and learn all about how, Christmas Day, once a new and strange celebration, has exploded in popularity. A holiday that once featured paper, fruits and popcorn is now a full blown Victorian celebration, with all the pomp and circumstance to match!
Kids can also meet Santa Claus, warm up by our fire, and learn to make period crafts to take home with them after the tour. Food trucks will also be on site.
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets for LCHS members are just $10, nonmembers are $15 each, and kids are just $5. Tickets include tours of the house, visits with Santa, and the children's crafts. For more info, call 570-823-6244 ext. 3 or email [email protected]. No reservations are required, tickets can be purchased at the door.
