A Story Among Us: A Shared Short Story Reading & Conversation

One complete story. One uninterrupted sitting. One conversation afterward.
A Story Among Us is a different kind of Austin reading event. Upon arrival, everyone receives the same short story, settles into a comfortable chair with a drink, reads the story quietly, and then discusses it together.
The story is not available in advance and it remains a surprise until the evening begins.
After putting away our phones and choosing a place to read, we will spend approximately 30–40 minutes reading in silence. You will then have a few minutes to gather your thoughts before moving into a relaxed small-group conversation and, finally, a discussion with the room.
Stories may be eerie, witty, thought provoking, rooted in Texas culture or built around a question with no obvious answer. Selections may come from the public domain, contemporary writers, independent publishers or local authors sharing work with Analog.

• A complete short story selected for the evening
• Uninterrupted reading time
• Guided small-group and whole-room discussion
• One house drink
• Phone storage throughout the evening
• No homework whatsoever
No literary expertise is expected. Come because you enjoy stories or because you miss finishing something in one sitting.
Analog Room is East Austin’s phone-free social club for silence, books and being human together, located upstairs above Cisco’s Restaurant.
