Join the 'Friends of Green Hill for "A Spring Victorian Picnic".In the 19th century, particularly during the Victorian era, cemeteries were not just places of mourning but also vibrant social hubs where families would gather to celebrate life. These meticulously landscaped cemeteries, such as Green Hill Cemetery, were designed to be serene and beautiful, resembling parks more than mere resting places for the deceased. Families would frequent these cemeteries for leisurely picnics, strolls, and even community events, finding solace and joy amidst the gravestones and monuments. It was a time when the line between life and death was blurred in a more harmonious way, and the act of visiting cemeteries was a reminder to cherish the present while honoring the past. These outings fostered a sense of community and continuity, connecting generations through shared memories and experiences in a tranquil, contemplative setting.
We are currently looking for historians, re-enactors, and knowledgeable speakers about the Victorian era. We are also looking for vendors and speaker that are death positive and will add to the culture and positive atmosphere of our Cemetery. Apply using the form linked below
